Recent Graduate résumé examples
that read like a
person, not a template.
A recent graduate résumé must prove you can do the job before you've held it. Recruiters scan for project outcomes, technical depth, and the verbs that show you built something real. Every bullet should answer: what did you ship, what broke, and how did you fix it?
One tailored cut, not a fill-in-the-blank template.
Every résumé below is a translation of a real history against one specific role. This is the Scannable voice.
Built and shipped two full-stack applications from spec to deployment. Comfortable in Python, React, and SQL. Looking for a role where I can own features end-to-end.
- Built a real-time chat application handling 500+ concurrent users using WebSockets and Redis, reducing message latency to under 200ms.
- Designed and deployed a REST API for a campus ride-sharing platform serving 1,200 students, cutting average response time 35% through query optimization.
- Led a 4-person team to develop a web-based inventory tracker for a local nonprofit, migrating 2,000+ records from spreadsheets to a PostgreSQL database.
What a recent graduate résumé has to prove.
Hard skills recruiters scan for
- One primary programming language with project depth (Python, Java, TypeScript)
- Web stack: frontend framework (React, Vue) or backend framework (Flask, Spring)
- Database: SQL (Postgres/MySQL) and basic schema design
- Version control: Git, pull requests, branching workflows
- Deployment basics: cloud platform (AWS/GCP) or containerization (Docker)
Signals that separate seniors
- Ownership: you shipped a project from idea to deployment
- Collaboration: you worked on a team or with stakeholders
- Problem-solving: you debugged a hard issue and can explain the fix
Start bullets with ownership, not “responsible for.”
Three lines, rewritten.
"Responsible for" is a passive placeholder. Lead with the verb and the scale.
"Worked on a team project" is vague. Name the team size, the deliverable, and the data moved.
"Various technologies" hides your specific skills. Name the tool and the metric.
Recent Graduate résumé questions, answered.
How long should a recent graduate résumé be?
One page, always. You don't have the experience to fill two, and recruiters won't read past the first. Use the space to detail 2-3 strong projects and any internships.
What if I have no work experience?
Focus on projects, coursework, and open-source contributions. Treat each project like a job bullet: what you built, what tech you used, and what measurable outcome (users, performance, data migrated).
Should I list my GPA or coursework?
List GPA only if it's 3.5+ and the job asks for it. List coursework only if it's directly relevant and you can't fill the page with projects. Otherwise, projects and skills matter more.
Do I need a different résumé for every job?
Yes, tailoring your projects and keywords to each job description dramatically increases your callback rate. Whittler does this in about a minute: paste the job description, and it re-angles your real history against that role.
